Lent / Ash Wednesday

Well we made it to church last night and Greyson did pretty good. We headed to Holy Family for 6:00 mass, so prior to that Greyson dined on a couple waffles and a banana. I wanted to make sure he had a full belly before mass so at least I didn't have to worry about that part. As for Nate and I we did end up having some grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. For some reason, that always tastes so good.

So, lent has begun and all I could really pray for in church LAST NIGHT was for God to give me strength really in everything I do and I also spent time thinking about what I can give up or more importantly what can I DO!!!!!!!!!!! So, I think Grey and I are going to visit my life long neighbor at the nursing home...Martha!

We grew up next to Martha on 2nd street and now my parents even bought her home and rent it out now. We would always just go in her house like it was our own and visit and she was a really good cook and always baking something for my family. And whenever we would go to leave her house she would stuff our pockets with those butterscotch candies. She always had those on-hand. However, it was getting to the point where Martha could not take care of herself on her own and that her best bet would be the nursing home.

Let's rewind a bit...Right before Valentine's Day Greyson and I made a trip up to see Martha and to be honest with you the only reason we did was because my parents were out of town visiting Jayne and my mom had a little valentine's day present for her and asked if I could run it up to her. So, Grey and I went up and let me tell you as soon as we walked in and I let Grey run down the hallway it was like I had brought LIFE back to all of them. Really they were just in awe of him and staring and laughing...probably because they are not used to seeing that much activity...lol! Anyway, I was a little nervous about going just because I really don't like nursing homes, but it was a really nice visit and Greyson was clutched to my hip at FIRST but then Martha's roomate pulled out a brownie and that's all Grey needed to see! lol! Although I did lie and said we still had to eat dinner so Grey did not get a brownie...You know kinda like never take candy from a stranger type thing and it looked like they were homeade so I was a little leary(SP?)...So, thinking back to that little encounter I think that is something Greyson and I can do...go visit Martha because she LOVED seeing Greyson and that's the least we can do!

Martha also has an oxygen tank she wheels around with her and Greyson just thought that was the coolest thing ever!!! I did have to stop him though when he started pulling on the cords to it...we didn't want to be the cause of that or anything...Geesh -then they really wouldn't want us back-my kid cuts off Martha's oxygen...Just kidding!

So, during this lenten season I hope all of you take a little extra time out and think about what you can DO rather than just what we can give up...because I always think actions speak louder than words...
