Our New Pillars

I've mentioned here and there about our project we have going in the front of our new house.

We decided to add pillars to our porch.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE the way it turned out.  It is not totally done yet, but here are some before and after pictures.

I love the way the stone/slate looks...

I know this picture is from September but just to show you what our porch looked like before....

when we bought it...

we took out the spindles and just had the skinny white poles...

This is what we have now...it gives it a whole new look...the slate is on the bottom and then cedar on top...not sure yet what/if I'm going to do anything with the cedar - paint/stain/color etc...?  what do you think?

we also have a new mailbox with the matching slate.... we just had a plastic one before...(I don't have a pic of that)...

I like the 'woodsy' yet modern look it gives our house...

and we decided to line the whole bottom/front of our house in the slate/stone...a little bit more money but totally worth it...

It's not done yet, but almost...

happy at home

It was the Bookfair this week at our school for American Education week.  The kids get excited about this.  Grey got a new star wars book, a phonics set for short letter sounds, and some other goodies.  He loves to read.

Goin' in for a kiss - look how serious Grey is - ha!

I started Sailor on some Pinkalicious books because I think those are so cute.  She now has Silverlicious and another book titled Shoe-la-la...a nice start to her own little library.

We took full advantage of the nice weather yesterday...

After running some Saturday morning errands we came home and did some work while the kids played outside.

This was a little Saturday treat....some rootbeer...

We Nate painted our garage door yesterday....
This is not the best picture to compare...but it's a lot darker and I love how it turned out - just enough...

We also bought new lights for our house that had to be special ordered but they just came in yesterday...hopefully we will have these up today.  These are the ones I picked...it's just a picture off the web....

We are also in the process of doing some pillars on our front porch.  I have posts there - but now I want to make them into decorative pillars.  We picked some really cool natural stone for them...so I can't wait until our contractor starts on these...it was a little difficult because we couldn't find our exact brick that's on our house so we tried to match it with some stone.  I think this is what we are going with.
Little by little we will get our new house to where we want it...but first we're trying to get the outside done before we start on the inside.  Next, will be landscaping...

And here we are this morning...this is how we roll on Sunday morning...Pjs, cowboy boots and ALL;)  We dropped the kids off at Dee Dee's just for a bit while Nate and I went for a morning run!

We got rid of our pumpkins so Grey threw them over Dee Dee's hill this am - he thinks the deer will eat them...

And now I'm patiently waiting for my outdoor lights to be installed;)  and then i'm off to the grocery store because I just checked my milk and it's 9 days old- woops!

Happy Sunday!

Greyson's Bedroom...

I finally feel like I have one room done in the house and it's Grey's room.  This was easy because ever since we bought the house he asked for a Star Wars room.  So, I knew what I was going to do.

I was gonna get his bedding at Pottery Barn because they had some cute star wars sets, but I thought why spend that much when he'll probably be into something else very soon.  So my mom actually found bedding on overstock.com and she ordered it for him.
he was trying to snap his fingers;)

We painted Grey's room a gray color and I love how it turned out.  Actually I went with grays throughout my house except for Sailor's room- hers is PINK of course:)

My mom also ordered Grey this cool decal off of etsy....we put it right above his bed...

He has a nice full size bed now!  When we bought Grey's crib set we knew we wanted one that transferred to a daybed and then to a full size.  And I'm so glad we did that because with my experience, kids are hard on furniture and it was so nice when the time came that we had the pieces to make his bed a full size.  All we had to do was get a brand new box spring and mattress.  Grey probably has the comfiest bed in the house!  My parents bought him a top of the line mattress and many nights I fall asleep with him...so I know how comfy it is;)

These are the pics above Grey's bed...I put new ones in them every year...I love how they turned out...he helped me pick the ones he wanted...it was so cute how excited he got about them...

This is the bookshelf in Grey's room for now...I haven't even unloaded all of the bins that are filled with books...But I keep his photo albums on there too because he likes to look at them...
I bought the star wars decals at Target...I like decals because they aren't permanent.  They peel right off...if need be...

I love our maternity pictures we had done when I was pregnant with Greyson and he always likes when I tell him he was in my belly...he specifically wanted me to put a little yoda above these pictures - haha!
I let him keep one basket of toys in his bedroom - the rest are downstairs...I also got the basket at Target...

This was a sign my friend Camron made me when Grey was a baby...I Love it!

I'm really happy with the way it turned out.  I think it's super cute for a boys bedroom and Greyson is THRILLED with it!

So, what do ya think?!

Just Us...

one night... at our new house...right in the front driveway...we had a little fire...and made S'mores...wonderful fall night...perfect way to end the day...with my family of 4:)

It's a perfect way to welcome fall.  Out with one season and we welcome another one.  Just making me some good family memories.  Our orange lights are strung just right in the house, our light up pumpkins are lit every night by Greyson, and our jack-o-lantern sippy cups have taken the lead in the cupboard.  We're loving the change.
Our Fall calendar seems to be booking up fast.  We just figured out what we are gonna be for Halloween too.  Final decision was made on Friday;)  My counter is also filling up with Pre-K homework:)  Grey is all about ordering from scholastic, reading his October books(he has monthly goals), coloring his monthly vocabulary, and he's so excited to decorate his Scarecrow(we still have to do that)...he's such a good boy!  And let me tell you he knows how to make a stellar s'more...he turns that marshmallow perfectly...

as for this girly girl - she's EVERYWHERE - but mainly diggin' in the oreos -ha!  She's my fiesty one;)

Cool, crisp, fall nights are here...i turned my heat on for the first time a couple nights ago...I didn't want to, but it was a little chilly up in here...
I think we are heading to the pumpkin patch tomorrow...tis' the season!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Updates

Sorry I've been MIA...

But we've been going to town packing up our house every chance we get.  If you walked into my home right now you would find a million boxes and a TON of plastic bins waiting to be filled.  So far we've emptied out the basement, the garage, and the shed - and that makes me feel better because they were the BIG ones...Basically all we have left is the bedroom furniture and the couches to get out and of course some things out of the kitchen.  We are renting a storage place for the time being.

We close next Friday 8/17 on our new house.  By the way, I don't think I filled you in on what happened.  We were looking at a home that was in foreclosure.  We thought it was a great deal but then we had the inspections done which I had told you.  Unfortunately, there were a TON of MAJOR things wrong with the house, such as plumbing problems, electrical problems, in need of a whole new septic system (which that alone was probably going to cost anywhere from $8,000 - $15,000), and MOLD!  So, we walked away from it.

It was just not worth it in our opinion to do all of that work at this point in time.  And I have to be HONEST - MOLD scares me...that can really cause health problems  Thank goodness we had the inspections done.

But, the good side, is that we found another house that is pretty much brand new.  It was built in 2009.  It's a 3 bedroom ranch.  We wanted 4, but we plan on fixing up the GINORMOUS basement eventually.  There is a lot of potential with this house and better yet - room to grow for our growing family.  We already had the inspections done and everything was GOOD!  We are having the house painted once we close but other than that we can move right in for now.  Obviously, there are things that Nate and I want to do, such as rip out the carpeting, lay new floors, new countertops, a cool backsplash...but those are all things that can be done in time...and I don't even know what I want yet meaning what style I want to go with and I don't want to rush  -that's for sure.  And with school starting up again we are just sooooo busy.  I'm just anxious to get moved in, settled, and on a routine.  It will be the best thing for all of us.  It has been 'up in the air' here the past couple months and I dislike that feeling of being in limbo if you know what I mean.

Our life in pictures lately...

Sister is just 'steppin' away...more and more steps everyday...

and she was loving the empty garage...right after we had packed it all up...

He likes to show Sailie his big tricks...

Grey wanted to help clean out the garage...

and as long as he was doing that....Sister knew it was her only chance to get the ball;)

While I've been packing up...we just pull out our remaining toys and fill up the pool...it kind of saves the day;)

our water guns help...

and graham crackers for Sailie help too;)

Happy Friday!
